De Madres a Hijas – Nueva Vida

In 2022, De Madres a Hijas was created with Bright Pink as an educational health workshop that teaches daughters of Latina breast cancer survivors about hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC): their risks, their options, and healthy prevention behaviors. This first-of-its kind health workshop fulfilled a tremendous need in the under-resourced Latina community. Forty-eight (48) women have participated including 24 mothers and 24 daughters. We’ve been able to show a 91% increase among Latina daughters HBOC knowledge, but most importantly, the Nueva Vida and Bright Pink partnership has empowered young Latinas to practicing healthier daily activities, knowing their medical history and developing “action plans,” to put their knowledge gained to take control of their health and reduce their risks of developing cancer.

To extend the reach of the program, we have developed the De Madres a Hijas Toolkit—a manual for other Latino-serving organizations hoping to facilitate these life-saving conversations in their communities. This resource includes planning tools, a facilitator’s guide, educational materials, handouts, evaluation instruments, and post-session resources – everything needed to host a session, all in one place.
